Places immediately hiring and how to apply
/If you’re facing a job loss I want you to know you’re not alone. There are a lot more options than you realize.
And there are places still up and running that might offer you employment. Consider this list with an open mind. During the last recession, I worked in the produce department at my local Walmart, culling produce and scooping it into a trash compactor. It was work that kept us moving. Work has dignity.
Also, this post is meant to inform. Do YOUR due diligence to see what qualifications are required.
Places currently hiring and how to apply:
Zoom
Zoom, an online conferring platform. We used Zoom this morning so my son could do his occupational therapy. They are hiring for many positions.

Grocery stores and gas stations
Our locally owned grocery store had a big green sign on the door Sunday with about a dozen positions they were needing to fill. People will always need groceries. And because of the nature of grocery work many of these are early morning or late-night jobs. (I worked the 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. shift at Walmart back in the day!)
These positions are for cashier to stocking shelves. There’s a lot of variety here.
Walmart said it is looking to fill 150,000 positions at both it’s stores and distribution centers. Many of these positions are temporary but the company did say they would convert many to permanent.

Pizza places
I had a friend who owned several pizza franchises in Altanta. He told me he knew the economy was dipping when his pizza business boomed. I thought it was a strange statement, but he said that when people can’t afford to go to dinner they will still spring for a pizza. Pizza Hut, Dominoes, and Papa Johns are all hiring. These jobs range from front of the house, to the kitchen to delivery.
Pizza Hut announced it was hiring 30,000 positions and Dominoes announced the inclusion of 10,000 positions.

Delivery
Deliveries are still up and running. And with more and more people practicing social distancing, online orders for staples have increased. And food delivery app downloads have increased, some up to 200%. So places like Instacart and Grubhub are hiring. These are contract positions and offer no benefits.
