Is Madison Reed worth the money? A completely honest review of Madison Reed

is madison reed hair color worth the hype a completely honest review of madison reed.png

If you spend any amount of time on the internet you’ve probably heard of Madison Reed hair color. Advertisements for the subscription hair service have been popping up all over social media, in blogs, and on podcasts. It’s loved by beauty bloggers and touted for being a cheaper alternative to the salon and “better for you” than drug store hair color. But is it worth the hype?

I thought I would try it out and report back. This is NOT sponsored. I bought the product with my own money. I have no discount codes or affiliate links. This is for both of our educations.

My hair is turning gray and fast. I don’t know if it’s all my pregnancies over the past few years, stress from this year, or the fact that I’m just “at that age.” But it seems every day more gray hairs join the party and bring a few friends. I’m not opposed to going fully gray one day, but today is not that day. Today I cover my roots.

How does Madison Reed work?

You head over to their website, take a brief quiz and they will determine a color for you. It takes just a few minutes and you can even upload a picture to “try on” a color.

I hated the color they chose. HATED it. So I perused their website for a different color. I found their color choices both limited and overwhelming. Limited in that they had a few basic colors. Overwhelming in the fact that you can adjust those colors to be more red or have more undertones. I guess this is a good thing, but the process of looking was a bit much.

After you’ve picked out your color you check out, determine how frequently you want them to ship it to you and then you wait for your package to arrive.

What is in the package?

The package came with my colorant and processor, gloves, a shower cap, barrier cream (so you don’t dye your face), a wipe to remove excess color, a foil pack of shampoo and conditioner.

What was the process?

The process of coloring my hair was just like that of a box from the grocery store. Follow the instructions, rub it on your head, wait, then wash.

How was it different than store color?

I found several differences. First, it didn’t smell. There was no ammonia or strong chemical smell. It also didn’t itch or burn my scalp. The color also didn’t change in my hands like storebought color usually does.

How much does it cost?

$26.50. I googled a discount code and found one and got $5 off my first order and they had a promotion so I got a free towel for my hair. Which is legit by the way. It dries my hair so fast.

Do you recommend it?

Well, I have some pros and cons.
