Four places where you can sell your photos online
/Are you a photographer looking to make a little extra cash? Consider selling your photos to a stock photo website. I am sharing a few sites that buy high-quality photos.
As always, do your due diligence to find out if you, as an artist, are getting a fair price.
Lightstock
Lightstock is a growing platform (one used on this blog, actually). They accept photos, videos and vectors.
They offer a few options for getting paid.
Pay-As-You-Go: “Every time a customer downloads one of your photos or vectors using a Pay-As-You-Go credit, you receive a minimum of $3. Because video clips cost 4 credits, each time a video clip of yours is downloaded, you will receive a minimum royalty of $12.”
Subscriptions: “Every time a customer downloads one of your photos or vectors using a Subscription credit, you receive a minimum of $1.00. Because video clips cost 4 credits, each time a video clip of yours is downloaded, you will receive a minimum royalty of $4.”
Shutterstock
Shutterstock is HUGE, with over nearly 200 million images and over 90 million videos.
Shutterstock will pay you 30% of the sale price of an image. Payments range from $0.25 to $28.
They also allow you to keep your copyright and sell it to other sites. And their seller portal offers a lot of free tools to help you both hone your photography skills and increase salability.
iStock Photo
iStock is pretty popular among professional websites and news outlets looking for graphics. And they offer a lot of support for artist in their forums.
“For content licensed through iStock, royalty rates start at 15% for photos and 20% for videos and illustrations. Exclusive contributors can earn between 25% and 45%.”
Fotolia now Adobe stock
This service comes with the clout of Adobe behind it. “You get a 33% commission for photos and vector art and a 35% commission for videos based on the price of the image. You can request a payout via Paypal or Skrill when you have reached at least $25 in royalties.”
