How I clean my butcher block counter tops
/We have lived in our house five years and in that time out butcher block has seen a LOT of life. This is how I keep it looking fresh.
When we bought out house the previous owner told me that the butcher block island was made out of fallen trees from hurricane Katrina. Her family lost a lot in that storm, but managed to salvage this butcher block. I promised to take good care of it. There was a learning curb!
So this is what I do.
First I spray it down with a wood specific cleaner like Method good for wood.
After I wipe it clean I buff it dry with a cloth.
Then about once every 6 months I condition the wood using Boos Block Board Cream. It lasts forever. I have had this tube for five years. It is made out of beeswax and food-grade mineral oil, so it’s food safe.
I just squirt a dab on the block and then rub it in with my hands. Then I go over it again with a towel. And that is it. It is so easy and simple and effective.
